USDA proposes to ease import restrictions on Argentine poultry
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service proposes to amend its import regulations for live poultry and poultry products by adding Argentina to its list of regions considered free of exotic Newcastle disease.
The agency said a risk evaluation concluded that Argentina met the requirements to be recognized free of the disease.
However, since Argentina borders along regions that aren’t recognized by the United States as free of the disease, the USDA proposes additional certification requirements for imports of Argentine poultry.
Notice of the proposed rule is published in the Aug. 23 Federal Register. USDA documents published in the Federal Register are available on the Internet at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ppd/rad/webrepor.html.
