UPS REPORTS START OF PEAK SEASON
UPS, based in Atlanta, said on Monday that it expected to deliver 325 million packages worldwide in the four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
A spokesman said that Nov. 27 was “the official start” of UPS’s peak season, and that the company’s “peak day” would be Dec. 19, on which it anticipated delivering 19 million packages globally.
Although 45 million Americans will do some of their shopping online in 2000, the majority of UPS’s package volume moves from one business to another. The company will hire 95,000 holiday workers to supplement its 358,000 employees.
