Proposed FMC carrier and terminal agreement filing changes released

Proposed FMC carrier and terminal agreement filing changes released

The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission’s proposed changes to its regulations governing ocean carrier and terminal operator operators was published in the Dec. 2 Federal Register.

In a statement late November, FMC Chairman Steven R. Blust said the proposed rulemaking should help “reduce the overall burden and cost to ocean common carriers, while ensuring that the commission receives the information necessary to conduct effective oversight.”

The agency received requests to update and refine its agreements regulations from the National Industrial Transportation League, Council of European & Japanese National Shipowners’ Associations, International Longshoreman’s Association, P&O Nedlloyd, and the Ocean Carrier Working Group Agreement.

Comments on the proposed rulemaking are due to the FMC by Jan. 30.
