HAMBURG-SUD ACQUIRES SOUTH PACIFIC CONTAINER LINE
Hamburg-Sud, the fast-expanding German shipping group, has signed an
agreement to acquire the assets of South Pacific Container Line, the South Pacific niche
carrier.
The current owner of South Pacific Container Line, based in San
Francisco, is Interorient Navigation Co. Ltd., of Cyprus.
Hamburg-Sud said that it expects to complete the takeover by the end of
the month.
South Pacific Container Line’s services cover the trade between the
West Coast of North America and Tahiti, Western Samoa and American Samoa. They will
complement the operations of South Seas Steamship Line, a Hamburg-Sud subsidiary, between
the U.S. West Coast, Tahiti, American Samoa, Western Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand and Hawaii.
South Pacific Container Line is the latest acquisition by the
Hamburg-Sud group, which has also bought South Seas Steamship, Transroll and Alianca.
