EC AIMS AT SINGLE EUROPEAN AIR SPACE
The European Union must develop a single air transport
market covering all 15 countries of the union, the new European commissioner responsible
for transport said.
Loyola de Palacio, vice president of the European Commission, told a
meeting of the Association of European Airlines that the creation of " a single sky
for 15 countries" is one of the Commission’s priorities over the next few years.
"The current fragmentation is an obstacle not only for the
implementation of the internal market, but also for the competitiveness of Europe’s air
transport industry in the world," the EC said.
Other priorities of the EC are the development of a common security
agency and environmental issues.
