FAA SELECTS MIDWEST AIRPORT FOR PROGRAM
The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday said it selected an airport outside of St. Louis for involvement in a program that aims to provide financial assistance for military airfields being converted to civilian or joint-use airfields.
Mid America airport, near St. Louis, will receive financial support through FAA’s Military Airport Program (MAP) to construct a cargo facility. Mid America is a joint-use airport with Scott Air Base, and serves as a reliever airport for St. Louis Lambert Field.
MAP funds may be used for projects not generally funded by FAA’s Airport Improvement Program that aid in the conversion process for civilian use. These projects include the building of cargo facilities and access roads. The program is intended to increase airport system capacity by funding development of civilian airfields in or near major metropolitan areas.
