MD Logistics has become one of only a few pharmaceutical third party logistics companies in the Indianapolis area to achieve Foreign Trade Zone status with the U.S. government.
Having FTZ status means that when a shipper’s imported product arrives at a U.S. port, it can be moved immediately to MD Logistics facilities without waiting for U.S. Customs clearance. This rapid movement creates an advantage when dealing with the delivery of sensitive pharmaceuticals, most of which require storage at a constant temperature of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, the company said.
MD Logistics said the FTZ designation also enhances its customer service on an international level, from order entry to final delivery. “Products stored in an FTZ are considered to still be on foreign ground, which delays payment of customs fees,” said Jeff Luthman, vice president of life science solutions for MD Logistics, in a statement.
