STB: RAILROADS, PRIVATE TANK OWNERS RESOLVE DISPUTES

The U.S. Surface Transportation Board said settlements are starting to be reached privately between the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Co., Union Pacific Railroad Co., and a group of private tank car owners.

Last year, the North America Freight Car Association, the Railway Progress Institute’s Committee on Tank Cars, The Chlorine Institute, and E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co. asked the STB to declare certain charges for storing cars or diverting them from their original purpose are improper departure. The companies said the charges were not part of their original agreements with the railroads.

So far, three of five disputes filed with the STB have been settled. Disputes between the North America Freight Car Association and BNSF, and DuPont and UP still need resolution. These are expected to be concluded by May 20, the STB said.
