Rail service to Staten Island Terminal begins this week

New York Container Terminal said on-dock intermodal rail service to its facility will begin on Thursday.

The Howland Hook terminal on Staten Island said CSX Transportation will begin offering service between the terminal and    Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus and Detroit five times a week.

Jim Devine, president of New York Container Terminal, said, “based on evaluating our current rail activity, these four inland locations will cover a little over 70 percent of the rail traffic we are currently handling. Those locations that are not supported with the on-dock rail service as of yet will continue to be handled via truck drayage to the appropriate ramp.”
