USDA seeks performance feedback on Codex-related standards

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service seeks comments on standards under consideration and recommendations for new standards by the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

Codex was created in 1962 by two United Nations offices: the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization. Its goal is to create international standards for the fair international trade in food and protect the health and economic interests of consumers.

The USDA agency specifically seeks input on recent standard-setting Codex activities, including commodity standards, guidelines, codes of practice, and revised texts, for the time periods from June 1, 2003 to May 31 2004, and June 1, 2004 to May 31, 2005.

Codex documents are online at http://www.codexalimentarius.net or on USDA’s Codex Office Web site at http://www.fsis.usda.gov.
