The U.S. Maritime Administration (MarAd) has released a survey that it requested from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to determine how many U.S. mariners would be willing to work at sea during a national defense emergency.
Sampling 10,000 of 104,000 seafarers qualified to serve on large oceangoing vessels, the survey indicated that 66 percent of 4,046 respondents would serve at sea during such an emergency.
