SEA-LAND CONDUCTS YEAR 2000 TESTS WITH U.S. COAST GUARD

Sea-Land Service has conducted tests with the U.S. Coast Guard to test its
ability to work with other organizations on potential year 2000-related incidents.
During a drill in New York, the containership Sea-Land Expedition simulated
the Jan. 1, 2000 arrival of a vessel into the port. Solely for purposes of the drill, the
Coast Guard took the precaution of using towboats to escort the vessel into port due to
adverse weather conditions.
The demonstration, co-sponsored by the New York Harbor Safety, Navigation and
Operations Committee, also included drills by other New York/New Jersey area operators.
Sea-Land said that it has inventoried and examined its vessel equipment that
relies on embedded computer chips, and replaced or repaired any critical components that
were not year-2000 compliant.
Each of the 61 vessels that Sea-Land manages has conducted year-2000 drills,
the company said.
