EGL opens logistics front in Iraq
Eagle Global Logistics said it has managed several shipments of portable power generators to Iraq from new offices in Amman, Jordan and Kuwait. In the past three weeks, EGL has chartered three Antonov AN-124 freight flights from Dubai to Kuwait and then arranged for the 20-foot containers containing the equipment to be trucked to Baghdad.
EGL also has used a barge charter from the Saudi Arabian port of Jebel Ali to the southern Iraqi port of Umm Qasr to ship more generators.
The Houston-based logistics provider said it is evaluating the launch of a weekly liner service between Jebel Ali and Umm Qasr with a local vessel operator as it seeks more ways to serve government agencies and companies involved in the reconstruction of Iraq.
