SCHNEIDER ENTERS BUSINESS-TO-BUSINESS, E-COMMERCE MARKET
Schneider Logistics, a subsidiary of trucking giant Schneider National
Inc., has entered into an alliance with Commerx Inc., an Internet marketplace developer
and e-commerce company, to provide business-to-business e-commerce logistics services
through Commerx’s PlasticsNet.Com electronic marketplace.
Schneider and Commerx plan to develop B2B e-commerce tools, including a
system to provide rate quotes via the Internet. PlasticsNet.Com users will have access to
Schneider’s new e-commerce transportation management capabilities to direct the flow of
product purchased at the site, and manage their own outbound finished goods by the second
quarter of 2000.
Schneider’s system will instantly provide rates for multiple shipment options
based on desired transit times and shipment characteristics. One a shipment is under way,
PlasticsNet will be able to track shipments. When shipments are complete, Schneider will
handle freight bill payment.
