KIEN HUNG UPGRADES TO WEEKLY ASIA/U.S./SOUTH AMERICA SERVICE

   Kien Hung Shipping Co., the expansion-minded Taiwanese shipping line, has upgraded the frequency of its Asia/U.S./West Coast South America “Orient Service” to weekly. Previously the service had a sailing frequency of 10 days.

   The vessel “Sea Boxer” started the new weekly sailings when it departed from Hong Kong on Aug. 30.

   Two 1,500-TEU vessels have been added to the service, making a total of nine ships with an average capacity of 1,536 TEUs.

   A spokesperson for Kien Hung said that the carrier is still looking to charter a tenth ship. With nine ships on the service, there would be one week every two and half months with no service.

   Before the capacity increase, Kien Hung’s service was already the third largest service in the Asia/West Coast of South America trade according to World Liner Supply, a reporting service of ComPairData. The additional capacity will close the gap between Kien Hung and major carriers in the trade.

   The service rotation is unchanged as Hong Kong; Kaohsiung; Keelung; Busan; Long Beach; Manzanillo, Mexico; Guayaquil; Callao; Iquique; Valparaiso; Talcahuano; Callao; Paita; Yokohama; Hong Kong; Kaohsiung; Keelung and Busan.
