Union Pacific opens Salt Lake City intermodal terminal

Union Pacific Railroad Wednesday officially opened its $83 million Salt Lake City Intermodal Terminal in Utah.

Work on the new 260-acre facility, located two miles south of Interstate 80, started February 2005, and was completed in July this year.

Union Pacific said the terminal would triple its international and domestic container capacity in the Salt Lake City area, being designed to handle a capacity of 250,000 over-the-road trailers or ocean-going containers annually.
