IATA STATISTICS BOOK AVAILABLE

   The International Air Transport Association said the 46th edition of its World Air Transport Statistics Guide is available in electronic format.

   Based on statistics from more than 200 of its member airlines, IATA said air-freight volume dropped 7 percent to 16.7 million tons in 2001. Members estimated an operating loss of $9.5 billion last year, IATA said.

   Federal Express remained the top air cargo carrier among IATA members, carrying 1.2 million tons globally in 2001. Lufthansa was second with 1.01 million tons.

   “The year 2001 was, without a doubt, the worst year in the history of the air transport industry,” IATA said.
