Exel prepares first RFID testing center
Exel, a U.K.-based provider of logistics services, said it plans to open its first radio-frequency identification (RFID) distribution center, located in Harrisburg, Pa., later this year.
The 110,000-square-foot facility will provide an environment where Exel and selected retail customers can test multiple aspects of RFID operations, including chip positioning, pallet configuration, and optimum layout within the center.
The 'working laboratory' setting 'will aid in determining the accuracy, reliability and security of RFID in affordably delivering necessary levels of supply chain visibility,' Exel said in a statement.
If tests go well, Exel will establish other RFID facilities in Europe and Asia.
