Kuehne + Nagle has entered into a six-year contract with Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, an in vitro diagnostic products and services provider, to manage the company’s cold and temperature-controlled warehouse and distribution needs in the United States.
The Swiss-based third-party logistics provider also manages Ortho Clinical Diagnostics’ domestic and international cold chain transportation.
In order to handle these responsibilities, Kuehne + Nagel added 125,000 square feet of warehousing space to its Memphis, Tenn. facility, which features 37,000 square feet for 2-8° Celsius (35.6-46.4° Fahrenheit) service, 25,000 square feet for -25° Celsius cryogenic service, 43,000 square feet for controlled-ambient warehousing conditions, and 20,000 square feet for packaging operations.
The Memphis facility already included 200,000 square feet of warehousing space, primarily dedicated to the life sciences industry.
“The Kuehne + Nagel Memphis operation is considered to be one of the largest cold chain logistics premises ever designed by a third-party logistics provider on behalf of a specific client,” K + N said in a statement.
