NEW TEAM CLAIMS VICTORY IN MEBA ELECTIONS

Ron Davis will lead the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA) after his victory this Monday. Assuming leadership with him will be four of his closest lieutenants. The five of them will comprise the District Executive Committee (DEC), the union’s policy-making roundtable group.

Davis, a Vietnam veteran and a 1978 graduate of the Calhoon MEBA Engineering School, said: “the strength of my candidacy and most of those on our ticket is that we began as union officials at the entry level, working the deck plates and excelled at our jobs, as we made our way up the ladder.”

Davis and his team, which includes all the Branch Agents of MEBA’s respective ports, will be sworn into office Dec. 31, 2001.

Davis will be accompanied by the following members, who will assume their respective positions: Louie “Bud” Jacque, executive vice president and San Francisco Branch Agent; Cecil McIntyre, secretary-treasurer; Don Keefe, Atlantic Coast vice president; and Marc Huber, Gulf Coast vice president.

MEBA is the nation’s oldest maritime union, established in 1875. MEBA represents licensed engine and deck officers aboard seagoing vessels, ferries and government-contracted vessels.
