Dragonair’s July cargo down 9.3%

Dragonair, recently bought outright by fellow Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific Airways, transported 29,692 tons of freight in July, a 9.3 percent drop from 32,746 tons carried in the same month 2005.

“The summer is traditionally a quieter period for shipments, and this coupled with the reduction in capacity due to aircraft maintenance, led to the decline in cargo shipments,” said Stanley Hui, Dragonair’s chief executive officer. “The situation is expected to improve in August as the full cargo fleet will be back in revenue service.”

For the year so far, Dragonair’s cargo volume is up 2.4 percent to 217,872 tons.
