USDA denies trade help to Kentucky freshwater prawn producers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service denied a petition for trade adjustment assistance from a Kentucky freshwater prawn producers trade association.

Upon investigation, the agency found that the price information provided in the petition could not be validated. Kentucky prawn prices could not be verified to have declined by more than 20 percent because of imports during the January-December 2002 marketing year or over a five-year average, conditions required to receive trade assistance, USDA said.
