Barcelona Europe South Terminal has invested in a second inland terminal, the Maritime Terminal of Zaragoza, according to Hutchinson Port Holdings Limited.
Barcelona Europe South Terminal (BEST), a subsidiary of Hutchinson Port Holdings Limited, has acquired a 20 percent interest in the Maritime Terminal of Zaragoza (TMZ), operated by Depot tmZ Services S.L.
TMZ is an inland cargo terminal located between Barcelona and Madrid, within 300 kilometers of major Spanish industrial areas including Catalonia, Aragón, Valencia and the Basque region.
“This new acquisition will help us provide comprehensive logistics solutions by developing our hinterland network throughout Spain and southern France,” BEST General Manager Guillermo Belcastro said in a statement. “Combining TMZ’s ability to transfer containers to all these destinations with BEST’s deep-sea shipping connections offers logistics solutions that are efficient, economical and environmentally sustainable.”
Depot tmZ Services S.L. in Zaragoza will be owned by Terminal de Contenidors de Barcelona (45 percent), TMZ (35 percent) and BEST (20 percent), following the acquisition.
TMZ is BEST’s second inland terminal investment, following a 2012 investment in the Terminal Intermodal de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain.
