Long Beach welcomes first Matson international call
The Port of Long Beach Monday received the first call of a new Matson service connecting Shanghai and Long Beach.
The American-flagged ocean carrier re-entered the world of international shipping in February, with a five-vessel string of 2,600-TEU ships offering one of the fastest services between China and Southern California — 11 days. The carrier is hoping its primary markets, Hawaii and Guam, provide the westbound backhaul that will be the backbone to a successful entry into the competitive transpacific market.
The first of the vessels to arrive in Long Beach was the Matson Manulani.
