INTERCONTAINER-INTERFRIGO TAKES OVER CZECH COMPANY CSKD-INTRANS
European intermodal operator Intercontainer-Interfrigo and its affiliate Intercontainer Austria are acquiring 80 percent of CSKD-Intrans, a Czech intermodal terminal operator based in the Czech Republic, from Mainport Rotterdam Holding N.V. and ECT Beheer BV, both based in Rotterdam.
The terms of the transaction, due to become effective in January, were not disclosed.
“The move is designed to strengthen the position of the two companies in Central Europe and further build up their local structures,” a spokesman for Intercontainer-Interfrigo said. The Swiss company added that the acquisition is also in preparation for the forthcoming extension of the European Union towards the East, and the resulting trend towards European regional markets.
CSKD-Intrans operates four terminals in the Czech Republic (in Prague, Pardubice, Ostrava and Brno) and two transhipment facilities in the Slovak Republic (in Bratislava and Ko'ice). In 2001, it handled some 75,000 TEUs in international and 11,500 TEUs in national intermodal transport.
