MAERSK ADDS ASIA/CARIBBEAN PEAK SEASON SURCHARGE

   Maersk Sealand (Hong Kong) has announced the introduction of peak season surcharges for shipments from Hong Kong to the Caribbean.

   “Based on the discussion of the Caribbean Forum, peak season surcharges will be implemented for all Caribbean shipments made between the period of July 1 and Oct. 31, 2001,” the company said.

   The surcharges are set at $225 (U.S.) per 20-foot container, $300 per standard 40-footer and $340 per 40-foot high-cube container.

   The charges will be applicable to all Caribbean islands, to the North Coast of Colombia, Venezuela and Belize, with the exception of Martinique, Guadeloupe, French Guiana and Surinam.
