U.S. Customs expands Chicago port jurisdiction
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is expanding its jurisdiction at the Port of Chicago to cover a new intermodal facility at Elwood, Ill., effective Sept. 13.
The agency also proposes to extend its port coverage at Rockford, Ill., to include nearby Rochelle, Ill. The Union Pacific Railroad Co. has recently opened a new intermodal facility in Rochelle.
Customs said both changes are part of the agency’s “continuing program to more efficiently utilize its personnel, facilities, and resources, and to provide better service to carriers, importers, and the general public.”
