Schneider Logistics to run Wal-Mart Chicago DC
Wal-Mart Stores has hired American Port Services, a division of Schneider Logistics, to operate its new 3.4-million-square-foot import distribution center in Elwood, Ill.
The Wal-Mart facility is located near Chicago, adjacent to the BNSF Logistics rail transloading yard, and will serve as a deconsolidation center for import shipments arriving via rail from the West Coast en route to Wal-Mart distribution centers and stores throughout the Midwest.
Schneider Logistics, which did not provide terms of the contract, acquired American Port Services last August to increase its ability to handle cargo for its customers throughout the supply chain and maintain control of shipments through to parent company Schneider National’s long-haul trucking business. American Port Services provides transloading, deconsolidation, warehousing and local shuttle trucking operations at several major ports.
Earlier this year American Port Services signed a contract to provide warehousing and transloading services for Wal-Mart in Mira Loma, Calif.
