BNSF, NS OFFER COAST-TO-COAST, NON-STOP INTERMODAL SERVICE
Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Co. and Norfolk Southern Railway Co. have joined forces to provide coast-to-coast intermodal trailer service.
The Tuesday-through-Saturday service runs between Southern California and Rutherford, Pa., and Croxton, N.J. BNSF provides line-haul services from Southern California to Chicago. NS provides line-haul service from Chicago to the East Coast. The service runs non-stop with only one crew change, at NS's Ashland Avenue Yard in Chicago.
Michael R. McClellan, vice president, NS intermodal marketing, said, “The new intermodal service will decrease transit times between coasts by at least half a day and reduce cross-town drayage through Chicago.”
