WASHINGTON STATE FINES TAKNER OWNER $81,000 AFTER SPILL
The Washington State Department of Ecology has assessed a fine of $81,000 against the Dockendale Shipping Co. of the Bahamas.
The state department of ecology said the 'Pendrecht' had leaked 8,000 gallons of bunker fuel oil while berthed near Longview, Wash., on the Columbia River, in January 2002.
The spill resulted when oil from a bunker tank leaked through a crack into a ballast tank and was then pumped overboard.
The state department of ecology also assessed Dockendale Shipping $15,114 in natural resource damages.
