SAFMARINE TO DROP CMB TRANSPORT TRADE NAME BY END OF YEAR
Antwerp-based Safmarine said that it will stop marketing services under the name CMB Transport by the end of the year.
All north/south and east/west liner services of the company, as well as the various agency organizations, will operate under the name Safmarine.
Safmarine acquired the outstanding 50-percent share in Belgian shipping line CMB Transport in 1998 from Compagnie Maritime Belge.
Safmarine, which is well know in the South African trades, will now use its name in the trades where CMB Transport was historically well established, such as the Europe/West Africa, Indian Subcontinent and Mideast trades.
Safmarine, now owned by the Danish A.P. Moller group, said that it will continue to market its services independently from sister company Maersk Sealand.
