NEW U.S. TREASURY SECRETARY SUPPORTS LIAISON WITH INDUSTRY
Treasury Secretary Lawrence H. Summers told industry officials in
Washington Friday that his administration will continue to support a
liaison with them.
Summers was sworn in earlier this month to replace Robert E. Rubin. He
previously served as deputy secretary of Treasury. He also has an extensive
background in forming economic policy.
Treasury oversees the operations of Customs, Secret Service, Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and the IRS
Criminal Investigation Division.
"Customs cooperation with the industry should be a priority,"
Summers
said to members of the Treasury Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations of the U.S.
Customs Service. "We have a committee that in so many ways brings balance and
verse."
