GB RAILFREIGHT LAUNCHES SERVICE AT FELIXSTOWE
GB Railfreight has launched a new rail service at the Port of Felixstowe, to transport containers for Medite from the port's Southern Rail Terminal to and from Selby.
The rail company will initially operate one train three times a week, transporting 20 wagons capable of carrying three containers each. GB Railfreight plans to increase the service to five departures a week sometime in mid 2002.
'Rail volume currently represents 20 percent of the port's available U.K. domestic throughput, and we are keen to improve on these figures,' said Richard Pearson, managing director of Hutchison Ports (U.K.) Ltd., which operates the port. 'This new service increases the range of destinations connected by rail to the port, and will help boost future rail volumes.'
