Bush elevates advisor on international economics

   President Bush promoted Faryar Shirzad to deputy national security advisor for international economic affairs.

   He was special assistant to the president and senior director for international economic affairs on the National Security Council. His new portfolio will include humanitarian affairs, stabilization and reconstruction efforts.

   Prior to joining the NSC staff, Shirzad was assistant secretary for import administration at the Department of Commerce from 2001 to 2003.
