Saxen van Coller was fired by the South African logistics development group for failing to disclose previous criminal offences.
Dube TradePort, the logistics development group responsible for the construction of a passenger and airfreight logistics hub in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, has dismissed its chief executive officer following a disciplinary hearing chaired by an independent presiding officer.
According to a statement from the company, Saxen van Coller was fired from her post as CEO for failing to disclose previous criminal offences and a previous criminal conviction prior to her appointment. The Dube TradePort Corporation Board had previously suspended van Coller pending the outcome of a disciplinary investigation that began in February 2015.
“The Board views this non-disclosure in a very serious light,” Dube TradePort said in a statement. “Ms. Van Coller’s failure to disclose her criminal record prior to employment at DTPC is not only a serious misrepresentation; it also directly undermines the Corporation’s commitment to good corporate governance and integrity.
“The Board felt strongly that such conduct completely undermines the ethical code and value system of the Dube TradePort Corporation and it cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. The Board has further pursued charges against Ms. Van Coller and is exploring the possibility of recourse that can best be determined legally.”
Online news outlet Times Live, a member of South African conglomerate Times Media Group, reported van Collen’s salary was 2.5 million South African rand (U.S. $206,598.72) per year.
Hamish Erskine will continue in his role as acting CEO of DTPC until the board completes the process of appointing a new chief executive.
Formed in 2003, Dube TradePort Corporation is a business entity of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government responsible for developing a 2,840-hectare logistics hub 30km north of Durban. The facility combines access to the adjacent King Shaka International Airport, and ports of Durban Harbor and Richards Bay Harbor with a dedicated cargo terminal, storage and warehousing, offices, retail space, hotels, agricultural services, and dedicated IT and telecommunications support.
