NIKON PICKS UPS TO DISTRIBUTE DIGITAL CAMERAS IN U.S.
Nikon Inc., a provider of precision optics, has outsourced to UPS its distribution of Nikon’s digital cameras from manufacturing centers in South Korea, Japan and Indonesia to U.S. retail stores and distributors.
UPS Supply Chain Solutions will manage air, ocean freight, and related customs brokerage, while UPS will provide small-package deliveries and logistics needs.
Nikon’s freight will go to a UPS “campus” in Louisville, Ky., where packages can be kitted — adding batteries and chargers to packaged cameras — or prepared for displays, before being shipped around the country.
“We realized that by combining UPS services, we would … shorten our supply chain,” said Arnold Kamen, vice president of operations and customer service for Nikon Inc.
