PORT OF MARSEILLES-FOS TO JOIN CSI SECURITY PLAN
The Port of Marseilles Authority said that French authorities will officially pledge that the port will join the U.S. Customs-backed Container Security Initiative already signed by the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Le Havre.
The French port is stepping up measures to increase security at the Fos container terminal. The port will introduce screening equipment, in line with the anti-terrorist Container Security Initiative, to check U.S.-bound boxes at ports of loading.
The port has authorized immediate preparatory work costing 1.1 million euro ($1.1 million).
The port of Marseilles-Fos exports an average of 3,000 TEUs to the U.S. every month.
