Crew member dies on Central Gulf Lines ship

Pararescuers were unable to save the seafarer after he became ill.

A crew member on the Central Gulf Marine ship Green Ridge died Wednesday morning 900 miles off the coast of San Francisco after becoming ill.
Details were not available from the Navy or Coast Guard on the seafarer’s name or position, nor the cause of the illness.
The California National Guard said a four-person rescue team was flown to the ship Tuesday afternoon.
Press reports said after parachuting into the water, they used an inflatable boat to reach the ro-ro ship. The rescuers worked unsuccessfully through the night to care for the sick crew member, and he died at around 6 a.m. local time.
