BCE EMERGIS TO SUPPLY ELECTRONIC MESSAGING FOR SWISSCARGO
Swisscargo has signed a two-year agreement with BCE Emergis to provide the
airline with exclusive electronic messaging services.
Through BCE Emergis, Swisscargo’s freight forwarder and shipper
customers will be able to exchange air waybills, book cargo space and track their
shipments through the system.
The deal gives Swisscargo, a division of SAirGroup, "a one-to-one
relationship with a single service provider and eliminates the need for us
to concern ourselves with the complex interfaces and protocol-translation requirements of
our hundreds of trading partners," said Ludwig Bertsch, president and chief executive
of Swisscargo.
BCE Emergis provides electronic messaging services for 46 other major
airlines, but this is the company’s first exclusive deal, said Christian Trudeau, chief
operating officer and executive vice president.
BCE, which purchased SNS/Assure Corp. in November, became the largest single
electronic commerce supplier to the international air cargo
industry. Its 47 customers account for more than 90 percent of the air
cargo lifted around the world, the company said.
