VANCOUVER’S SECURITY SPENDING TOPS C$4 MILLION
The Vancouver Port Authority will be spending more than C$3 million (about U.S.$2 million) a year on security measures at the Canadian port of Vancouver .
To date, the port authority has purchased a C$2.5 million ($1.6 million) gamma ray machine, performed terminal threat risk assessments, matched “level 3” U.S. security capabilities at its cruise terminals, implemented a card and gate access program, started monitoring 24-hour closed circuit television coverage of port roadways and cruise terminals and implemented a community incident reporting program to track suspicious activity.
The Vancouver Port Authority said that the C$3 million security spending does not include the investments that individual terminals will be making to enhance their own security.
