CROWLEY UNIT CHRISTENS ARTICULATED TUG-BARGE TANK VESSEL
Vessel Management Services Inc., a subsidiary of Crowley Maritime Corp. and part of its corporate services segment, will christen the first of four articulated tug-barge (ATB) tank vessels in New Orleans Thursday.
The 9,280-horsepower 'Sea Reliance' was built by Halter Marine and will be chartered to Intrepid Ship Management, a subsidiary of Marine Transport Lines.
Halter Marine and Vessel Management Services jointly designed the ATB, which has an articulated, or hinged, connection system between the tug and the barge, which allows movement in one axis, or plane in the critical area of fore and aft pitch.
Also to be christened is the 155,000-barrel double-hulled barge '550-1.'
