ATLAS SIGNS CHINA SOUTHERN
Atlas Air, the U.S. wet-lease cargo specialist, has signed China Southern Airlines to a long-term lease agreement covering one B747 freighter.
The wet-lease deal, under which Atlas will provide aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance, is the first of its kind in China, Atlas said. The lease begins in the first quarter.
China Southern’s “shift in focus from simply providing cargo hold capacity on their passenger flights to dedicated freighter services is a strong indication of their insight into the future demand for air freight services into and out of mainland China,” said Michael Chowdry, Atlas’ chairman, president and chief executive officer.
