BLUE STAR LINE (SOUTH AMERICA) CHANGES NAME TO HANSA STAR LINE
Blue Star Line (South America), the Montevideo-based
shipping line active in the liner trade between Northern Europe and the East Coast of
South America, has changed its name to Hansa Star Line.
The change of name is related to the sale a few years ago of Blue Star Line
to two different buyers. The Uruguayan shipping line Montemar took over Blue Star’s
Europe/South America trade, while U.K.-based P&O Nedlloyd acquired Blue Star’s
U.S./Australasia and Asia/Australasia routes.
P&O Nedlloyd continues to operate in the U.S./Australasia trade under the
name "Blue Star."
A spokesman for Hansa Star Line in Uruguay said that the shipping line will
maintain the agents and services of Blue Star Line (South America).
Hansa Star Line is now looking at opportunities to enter trades other than
the Europe/East Coast South America market, said Paul Rickmers, trade manager at the head
office in Montevideo.
The ultimate shareholders of Hansa Star Line are Chile’s Compania Sud
Americana de Vapores and the German shipping group Peter Dohle.
Besides its shareholding in Hansa Star, the fast-growing Compania Sud Americana de Vapores
group also owns Libra, Montemar, Pan-American Independent Line, Braztrans and Euroatlantic
Container Line, according to ComPairData, the global shipping database on the Internet at http://www.compairdata.com.
Hansa Star Line operates services between Northern Europe and the East Coast
South America within a joint service with Compania Sud Americana de Vapores, Montemar,
Euroatlantic Container Line, Contship Containerlines, P&O Nedlloyd and DSR-Senator.
