Trucking association receives $19 million for highway security program
The Transportation Security Administration said it has made a $19.3-million grant to the American Trucking Associations to train truck drivers on how to avoid becoming terrorist targets and report other suspicious activity.
The money will be used to expand the ATA’s Highway Watch program in which commercial drivers are trained to report safety incidents and other potentially dangerous situations to cover terrorist-related detection and prevention. The ATA operates a call center, which will relay distress calls and reports to a TSA response center responsible for alerting emergency personnel, law enforcement and other responders.
