Hanjin to open office in Bangkok, Thailand
Korean Hanjin Shipping is setting up a local joint venture company in Thailand with its existing agent for that country, Thai Shipping.
The local company will be located in Bangkok with operations scheduled to start March 1. Hanjin said it is investing $370,000 in the joint venture.
Hanjin transports 110,000 TEUs per year in Thailand through its weekly intra-Asia service connecting Thailand with Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and South Korea.
“The newly launched company is designed to leverage the company’s experience in the local shipping market to gain direct sales, which will lead to improved sales competency and more efficient logistics operation,” Hanjin said.
The new Bangkok office is part of the Seoul-based company’s plans to add more direct sales organizations in Europe and Asia. Offices in Valencia, Spain and Antwerp, Belgium were added earlier this year.
