NY-NJ PORT AUTHORITY WANTS AIR LAW ‘MITIGATED
'The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on Monday asked members of the New York-New Jersey Congressional delegations to “mitigate” the effect of a recent federal law that would direct hundreds of additional passenger jets to JFK and LaGuardia airports.
''''Although the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act, or AIR-21, provided $40 billion for the Federal Aviation Administration over the next three years, it also allowed unlimited landings by regional jets — aircraft seating 70 or fewer passengers — at LaGuardia and JFK airports.
''''William R. DeCota, the PA’s bistate director of aviation, referred to AIR-21 as a “double-edged sword.” He said “the present situation is unacceptable,” and that more regional jets would “worsen congestion, leading to increases in delays and complaints about noise.”
