U.S., RUSSIAN GOVERNMENTS VOW INCREASED MARITIME COOPERATION
U.S. Maritime Administrator William G. Schubert met with Vyacheslav V. Ruksha, head of the Russian State Maritime Administration, in Washington Wednesday to discuss ways to enhance maritime relations between the countries.
The meeting between the maritime agencies was held under the auspices of Article 5 of the Agreement on Maritime Transport between the Russian and U.S. governments.
During the meeting, the delegations exchanged information on maritime developments in Russia and the United States, and their respective maritime relationships with other countries.
The delegations also considered ways to increase bilateral cooperation in the field of maritime transportation, especially in the area of security.
In addition, the delegations said they would increase cooperation in maritime education and training. This may include future exchanges of faculty from designated academies and training facilities.
