EMERY WINS U.K. DEFENSE AIR FREIGHT CONTRACT
Emery Worldwide, the integrated air freight subsidiary of California-based CNF Inc., has been awarded a three-year air freight forwarding contract by the U.K. government’s defense logistics agency.
Emery expects the deal to bring in about $5 million in revenue and involve the movement of some 3 million kilograms of military equipment. The account will be managed by Emery’s London Service Center. A new department of the U.K.’s Ministry of Defense called the Defense Transport and Movements Agency awarded the contract.
Emery will provide air transport services using scheduled lift and its own planes to move goods from U.K. defense facilities to forces deployed around the world. Destinations will include the United States, Canada, Norway, Italy, Kuwait, Belize, Kenya, Kosovo and Bosnia. Emery will provide mainly airport-to-airport and airport-to-door services for all size shipments, including aircraft parts.
This is Emery’s first contract with the U.K. government’s defense agency. Emery has served the U.S. defense department in various roles. It also won a contract from Norway’s Foreign Military Sales department in 1997 to move goods between the United States and Norway.
