T. Parker Host Jr., steamship agent, dies at 88

   T. Parker Host Jr., the owner of the steamship agency T. Parker Host Inc., died on Sunday in Virginia Beach, Va., at the age of 88.
   After serving in the Army Air Corps, he joined the company in 1948, which was founded by his father. He served as both president and chairman of the firm.
   Host also served as a member of the city council for Newport News, and was president of the Mariner’s Museum. A prominent leader in the the port, he served on the boards of many business and charitable organizations. He was president and chairman of the Hampton Roads Maritime Assocaition, and was named “Mr. Hampton Roads” by that organization in 1981 which recognized his efforts for the unification of the ports of Hampton Roads and deepening of the channels of Hampton Roads.
   His sons, David and Tom lead the company today. David’s son David F. Host Jr. also works at the firm. – Chris Dupin
