U.S. supports intelligent transport system for Colombia

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency has awarded a grant for technical assistance to support the Colombian Ministry of Transport in its efforts to develop a plan to implement intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
The technical assistance will include an analysis of the applicability of various ITS technologies in Colombia, including the definition of two pilot programs to be selected from a diverse set of potential ITS applications.
The Colombian Ministry of Transport is evaluating ITS technologies as a way to increase the effectiveness of its control and management of Colombia’s highway and transport systems and introduce a congestion pricing policy in Bogotá and other major cities.
The Colombian government’s longer term objectives for ITS technologies is to improve highway safety, increase compliance with government regulations, enhance security, ensure revenue generation and make maximum use of existing infrastructure.
USTDA assistance will identify short- and medium-term milestones for the acquisition and implementation of ITS technology by Colombia’s Ministry of Transport, major cities, and public and private transport operators.
The opportunity to conduct USTDA-funded technical assistance will be competed through Federal Business Opportunities. A link to the FBO announcement will be posted to USTDA’s Website.
